The Regions of Aluria - Zhë Tiró Álurhnáyá

Inishár

Location: Inishar is an artifically designated region which takes in the small islands and island groups scattered across the planet which are too far from the main continent, Kániltóm, or from Váyná to be included in other regions. As such, it covers the bulk of the planet's surface, but contains only 1% of its land area.

Geography: Varies widely. Many of the islands along the southern polar region are cold, barren, and have either little or no population. These are often simple rock outcroppings which emerge from the ocean and are vulnerable to the frequent storms near the pole. Islands found in the southern hemisphere below Kániltóm usually have high peaks with thin beaches and are part of underwater mountain chains. Some of the islands further north in the intercontinental region of the ocean have gentler slopes with more variety. Climate also varies depending on the latitude and formation of the island. Polar islands are usually barren.

The bulk of the population lives in the Pósháná archipelago, approximately 800 miles west of the city of Esklává in Eskál. This group of islands, some of which are as large as Great Britain, have the best climate and most arable land. Pósháná has been inhabited longer than any other area of Inishár, and was one of the independant states of pre-Unification Aluria. Inishár's capital city, Póyná, is located on the island of the same name at the western edge of the archipelago.

Culture: It is difficult to point to a single culture for Inishár. The least populous of Aluria's ten regions, and the widest spread, each island or group of islands tends to take its culture from the nearest mainland region. Póshána is the main exception to this. The people of Pósháná are largely farmers and fishermen. Ágen, a sheep-like animal which bears a soft, cottony wool, are raised in this archipelago, and are considered some of the finest on the planet. Pósháná is also known for its pottery, made from a bluish clay found on the islands, and prized on Aluria and many other worlds. The people of Pósháná are soft spoken, sometimes considered taciturn, with a reputation for saying only what needs to be said. However, the visitor will still find good food and drink, and a comfortable, welcoming inn waiting.
